What will be the best selling car of 2020?

2020 is almost certainly going to be a strange year for cars, but will that mean a few surprises or a return to traditional buying habits? Let's take a look at our predictions for the best sellers of 2020.
Despite the huge drop in car sales caused by the Coronavirus lockdown, we can't see past yet another year of triumph for the Ford Fiesta: It's Britain's most successful car, it has topped the tables every year since 2009, and it's way out in front this year too.
Old Favourites
Due to the fact that people are unable to visit car showrooms and see or test-drive different models or brands, we're predicting that consumers will fall back on old favourites that they already know rather than get too adventurous. The Fiesta also has youth going for it as a new model was released recently in 2017 with a completely updated design, most notably a totally redesigned grille that rounds off the more aggressive look of the previous generation. The new-look grille brings the car more into line with fellow Ford influenced brands like Jaguar and Aston Martin, lending a luxury top of the range feel to it.
However, the real news isn't which model of the car will be top, but which class. This year is the year of the supermini, and we're betting that this type is going to dominate the top ten with such perennial favourites as the VW Polo, the VW Golf, the Mini Cooper and the Vauxhall Corsa. With the crossover segment eating up the market share of the traditional family hatchback and saloon, the tables recently look like a straight fight between the crossover and the supermini for dominance, with the latter just about emerging on top. This is a bit of a turnaround from the final table last year, when it seemed like crossovers like the Nissan Qashqai and the Kia Sportage were getting the upper hand, taking the majority of the top ten places in 2019. This is probably a result of stretched finances coming to the fore as the lockdown continues to bite. While the chunky aesthetics and sporty appeal of the crossovers remain strong, their higher cost in comparison to even higher-end superminis will probably continue to send buyers over to their smaller cousins in search of a better deal.
Superminis On Top
One reason for this is the sheer variety of cars that you find in the range, from souped-up racers to legitimate family cars, all with very different aesthetics and styling. This also means the return of the grille, a major feature of the crossover and supermini classes, letting in more air to the efficient supermini engines and taking up a large portion of the chunky crossover faces.
It's here that many of the cars really excel, with a huge variety of styles from traditional split grilles on the BMWs to intricate designs on the Nissans. It's a great example of how the manufacturers have been able to create really unique designs in a crowded class, and really adds a touch of flair to differentiate one car from the next. You can even make your car stand out further from the crowd and upgrade your grille, with so many different colours and styles to choose from that will look great and even boost performance.
